From analyzing customer needs to delivering their final eyeglasses, at L’Atelier Óptica, we have the best equipment, ensuring a pleasant and simple experience for the patient, along with precise and detailed vision results.
We have the most technologically advanced refractive measurement instruments in our examination rooms, relying on ZEISS equipment as our main ally, to obtain an individualized and efficient measurement, thanks to connected equipment that provides a more homogeneous, reliable, and precise process.
What ophthalmic equipment do we use?
First, when the patient comes to our opticians, we conduct a brief analysis of whether they are already a user of glasses or contact lenses. If so, we can check the prescription they currently use with the “ZEISS Visulens 550″ Digital Lensmeter.
This instrument is capable of reflecting the prescription of glasses, regardless of whether they are single vision, progressive, sunglasses, or gradient lenses. It can even measure the prescription carved into soft and rigid contact lenses.
Likewise, it is a device with which we can check if the lens is protected from the most harmful UV radiation, making it an essential device in our optometric examination rooms.
The next step for our optometrists is to obtain an approximate idea of our current prescription, without having to rely on the patient. We do this with our “VISUREF 150” ZEISS autorefractor and keratometer. This provides us with fast and reliable approximate refraction and keratometry results, in addition to providing measurements of other parameters such as corneal and pupil diameter, and contact lens curvature measurements.
The test used is very characteristic, and practically all users have gone through it. In this test, the image of a hot air balloon is reproduced in the distance, where the patient must maintain vision, regardless of whether it focuses and defocuses.
In general, it is a very comfortable and simple test for the patient to perform. It also collects and stores all patient information to be able to compare visual status or its evolution over time.

Later, we will move the customer to the next point: subjective refraction, which is that which starts from these previous steps and is confirmed with the patient with a series of letter and dot tests. This is carried out with our “Visuphor 500 and VisuScreen 100/500” digital phoropter and screen.
This instrument is composed of lenses of various positive and negative powers that complement each other specifically according to the user’s prescription. It is operated from an independent screen and provides a wide range of different tests, but in general quite simple. It stores all the information from other previous exams, with the option to compare different prescriptions.
The digital phoropter is undoubtedly one of the most essential and fundamental instruments in an optometric examination room. Mainly, because it is where the measurement of other devices is valued together with the personal sensation of each patient, helped by a guide in the process that is the optometrist, leading the questions and making the necessary changes.

After obtaining the prescription and verifying it with the patient, we will proceed to perform a small examination with a slit lamp, a microscope with a light source, where we can observe the anterior parts of the eye, such as the cornea, eyelids, lens, iris, etc. To assess the state of ocular health and its structures, rule out or diagnose possible pathologies, as well as being essential when performing a contact lens fitting.
The patient will barely notice a moving light and has practically nothing to do other than keep their eyes open.
Thanks to this examination, eye diseases can be detected, including cataracts, dry eye, and corneal lesions, among many others, making it essential in each optometric review.

Finally, in patients over 40 years of age, it will be important to check the intraocular pressure of each eye, to detect or rule out possible glaucoma, an eye disease where high intraocular pressure gradually compresses the optic nerve until vision is lost. It is a very silent disease with few signs of evidence, so quantifying intraocular pressure is essential in each review from a certain age.
The measurement of this intraocular pressure is done with the help of a tonometer. It requires that we keep our eyes open trying not to move our gaze anywhere.
From L’Atelier Óptica, we invite you to try an authentic experience in terms of eye care. Let us advise you and you will notice the difference. Make an appointment or come see us at our Madrid centers.
