August has come to an end and September is already here. Little by little, we get back into our routines: school, work, daily commutes. In the middle of all this new organization, there’s one accessory that follows us everywhere and deserves more attention than we usually give it: our glasses.
Whether prescription or sunglasses, glasses are essential to face everyday life with comfort and style. And, like any other tool we use daily, they require specific care to stay in perfect condition.
At L’Atelier Ópticas we’ve gathered some useful tips to help you start the season with your vision protected and your glasses looking impeccable.
1. The case is not optional, it’s essential
Between backpacks, handbags and briefcases, glasses suffer more than we think. Carrying them unprotected often means scratches or bent frames. The best solution is to keep them in a hard case for long commutes and use a soft one for more frequent handling.
2. Avoid excessive heat
Even if summer is behind us, temperature changes in cars, offices or gyms can deform frames and affect lens coatings. Never leave your glasses in closed, overheated spaces, and always protect them in their case.
3. Don’t use them as a headband
We know it’s tempting, but wearing glasses on your head can loosen the fit, twist the frame and even scratch the lenses with hair or styling products. And they were simply not designed for that use.
4. Watch out for cosmetics and sweat
Moisturizers, makeup or even everyday sweat can damage lens coatings. To prevent this, the best option is to rinse them with fresh water and dry with a microfiber cloth.
5. Quick cleaning, but the right way
Forget about t-shirts or paper tissues. The ideal method is cold water and neutral soap. Then, dry them gently with a microfiber cloth without rubbing too hard.
6. Sunglasses with real protection
Even if September doesn’t feel like summer anymore, the sun is still there—and so is UV radiation. If your sunglasses don’t have certified UV filters, they don’t just fail to protect you, they can actually harm your eyes. Always make sure they provide UV400 protection or higher.
7. Prescription glasses? Consider a backup pair
Daily life brings plenty of unexpected events: breakages, losses, or simply forgetting them at home. Having a second pair of prescription glasses is not an exaggeration—it’s foresight.
Your glasses are just as necessary as your planner or your laptop. Take good care of them and you’ll ensure clear vision through every class, meeting and commute.
