How often should we get our eyes checked?

Having our regular eye check-up is essential to maintain a good visual health. And the truth is, this is something we overlook more than we should.

Normally when we feel that we see badly, we go to the optician, we get out vision examined and we forget to keep doing it unless we feel that we see badly again. That way, if we do not notice a lack of vision, we can spend years without going back to the optometrist or the ophthalmologist. And that is a mistake.

Visiting our optometrist is not just a matter of knowing if we need glasses, since in an eye check-up, conditions such as cataracts or glaucoma can be detected.

The general rule tells us that we should check our vision at least once a year, but this can have its nuances and variations depending on the age.

In children, for their first visual check-up, it is important to look for a centre with a paediatric optometrist and ophthalmologist, since in this first visit it will be necessary to instil a drug to know the total graduation. From the age of 4 to 13, the check-ups must be annual and can be carried out by the optometrist.

From ages 13 to 20, these check-ups should continue to be annual, since at this stage in life myopia problems can appear. If no visual problem is detected, from the age of 20 the frequency can be lowered to one check-up every two years.

But from the age of 30, we must return to annual check-ups, since new elements such as intraocular pressure or visual acuity will come into play, which must be checked frequently.

That said we hope to see you at L’Atelier Óptica because all our clients can have an annual eye check-up free of charge. We care about your visual health.
