Moscot in Madrid: where to find them, which models to try, and why it’s worth the visit

If you’re visiting Madrid and you know Moscot, you already know what you’re looking for. If you’ve just discovered them, welcome. Either way, this is where to find them in the city.
L’Atelier Óptica is an official Moscot stockist in Madrid. In this guide we’ll tell you what makes Moscot different, which models we carry, and how to make the most of your visit to try them in person.

What is Moscot?

Moscot is a New York eyewear brand founded in 1915 on the Lower East Side, the neighbourhood that shaped much of the city’s cultural identity in the early 20th century. What started as a small family optical shop became, over the following century, one of the most recognisable eyewear names in the world.
Their proposition has never changed: frames with character, rooted in the aesthetics of the 1930s to 1970s, made from quality materials and built to last. Moscot doesn’t follow trends, it outlasts them. That’s why a Lemtosh looks as right today as it did in 1965.
There’s something deliberately knowing about a Moscot. Whoever wears them knows what they’re wearing.

Why you can’t buy Moscot online in Spain

Moscot operates a selective distribution policy. You cannot buy them online, not through their official website for Spain, not through any distributor. They’re only available through authorised physical stockists.
In Madrid, L’Atelier Óptica is one of those stockists. We carry a large selection across our two optical boutiques in the centre of the city.
This isn’t a limitation, it’s part of the brand’s philosophy. A Moscot is something you choose in person, with time, trying frames on. It’s not an impulse online purchase, and it shouldn’t be.

The iconic Moscot models and what makes each one different

Moscot’s collection is built around classic silhouettes that have survived decades without significant changes. These are the most requested frames at L’Atelier Óptica.

Lemtosh. The one that started it all

The Lemtosh is Moscot’s most famous frame and one of the most recognisable shapes in eyewear history. Its rounded shape with a slight square edge and signature keyhole bridge is hard to replicate and easy to recognise. It doesn’t follow any single archetype: it’s Lemtosh.

Johnny Depp, Woody Allen, Truman Capote and King Charles III have all worn them, not as brand ambassadors, simply because they chose them. That tells you more about a frame than any campaign.

Available in acetate in multiple colourways, in both optical and sun versions.

Zolman. Geometry with attitude

The Zolman is Moscot’s perfectly round frame, and it carries the birth name of Great Grandpa Sol, one of the family’s founding figures. It’s the purest silhouette in the collection: fully round, clean, and uncompromising. The choice for those who want vintage at its most direct.

Miltzen. The classic round

The Miltzen was first introduced in the 1930s and is named after Uncle Heshy, a family member everyone inexplicably called Uncle Miltzen, and so the name stuck. It’s a full-vue round silhouette, more contained than the Lemtosh, with the same keyhole bridge and two dot rivets. Robert Downey Jr. wore it in Oppenheimer. The choice for those after the intellectual aesthetic of mid-century New York in its most authentic form.

Keppe. Big, bold and impossible to ignore

The Keppe is the boldest, most attention-grabbing frame in the Moscot collection. A large rounded-rectangle shape, wide paddle temples and two dot rivets make it impossible to overlook. It was the frame that Poppy Joel, one of the Moscot family founders, used to place in the Orchard Street shop window to stop people in their tracks. Today it’s been brought back by Zack Moscot, fifth generation of the family. The choice for those who have no intention of going unnoticed.

Who are Moscot frames right for?

The honest answer: it depends less on face shape than on attitude.
Moscot has a very defined visual language, vintage New York, with something literary and something cinematic about it. If that language resonates with you, the right frame exists in the collection. If you’re looking for something understated that won’t draw attention, this probably isn’t your brand.
In our experience at L’Atelier Óptica, the people who choose Moscot already know what they want. They’ve seen the frames on someone they admire, or they’ve had them in their mind for a while. They’re not browsing, they’re choosing.
That said, the Lemtosh in Blonde or Classic Havana is surprisingly versatile, more so than it looks in photographs. The only way to know is to try it.
